Instrument: Microscope-Optical
Instruments that generate enlarged images of samples using the phenomena of reflection and absorption of visible light. Includes conventional and inverted instruments. Also called a "light microscope".
Counts of 400 cells from each culture were made using a hemacytometer (Fuchs-Rosenthal ruling, Hauser Scientific) (Guillard and Sieracki 2005) from samples preserved in Lugol’s iodine (Parsons et al. 1984) using a light microscope (Axioplan 2, Carl Zeiss MicroImaging). A light microscope was also used to determine cell volume and to enumerate TEP and CSP by image analysis.
