Ocean Research and Resources Advisory Panel Spring 2011 Meeting
The Ocean Research and Resources Advisory Panel (ORRAP; http://www.nopp.org/committees/orrap/) will hold a spring meeting, 25-26 April 2011 in Washington DC at the Consortium for Ocean Leadership. The agenda includes an informational session on national data management, archiving, and sharing. BCO-DMO has been identified as a program of interest for this session and has been invited to give a presentation in this data management session.
ORRAP membership comprises individuals from the National Academies, state government, academia, and ocean industries, representing marine science, marine policy, and other related fields, and specifically addresses issues concerning resource management. The ORRAP is an advisory committee under the Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA), and is the only FACA body chartered to advise all the “ocean agencies.”
On 19 July 2010, Executive Order 13547, approved adoption of the final recommendations of the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force, that specifically designates ORRAP to “provide independent advice and guidance” to the Cabinet-level National Ocean Council.
The Spring 2011 ORRAP meeting includes a briefing on data management. Cyndy Chandler will attend the meeting and give a presentation on BCO-DMO and how our work relates to US and International priorities for ocean research data management.
