Description

Detailed methods are presented in Sasaki et al. 2019 (DOI: 10.1098/rsos.182115). Copepods were collected from two locations across the Northwest Atlantic (recorded in the Pop column). Populations were maintained at the UConn Avery Point campus for over three generations at 18oC, with a 12:12 light:dark cycle and a diet of Tetrasemis sp., Thalassiosira weissflogii, and Rhodomonas salina.

Methods & Sampling

At the beginning of the experiment, eggs were collected and split into two groups, which developed at either 18oC or 22oC (recorded in the Dev column). Once mature, healthy males and females (recorded in the Sex column) were exposed to a 24-hour acute heat shock, after which individual survivorship was recorded using a dissection microscope (recorded in the Surv column). Each individual experienced only a single temperature during the heat shock (recorded in the Temp column).

Data Processing Description

Data was not processed before analyses. All analyses were performed with the raw data in R version 3.0. Survivorship curves were estimated using a logistic regression (glm function from the stats package). Thermal tolerance was estimated from the survivorship curves with the dose.p function (MASS package). Correlations were performed using linear regressions (lm function from the stats package).
