Duplicate number. Fifteen mL of sample for each flask was 0.2 um filtered. Each filter was subjected to alkaline digestion to determine biogenic silicon (BSi) content per cell. Si was determined on the resulting supernatant using an AutoAnalyzer, which requires the 15 mL aliquots be divided into two, 7.5 mL samples. The numbers 1 and 2 indicate the duplicate number of the initial 15 mL aliquot
