Dissolved, inorganic nutrient concentrations and stable isotope measurements of particulate nitrogen and carbon collected from the ship's Underway system while transiting between stations.

Methods & Sampling

The ship’s Underway system was equipped with an in-line Seabird thermosalinograph to collect sea surface temperature (SST) and sea surface salinity (SSS) data from 5-7m below sea surface.

Nutrient samples were run at sea using a Lachat QuickChem 8000 flow-injection analyzer equipped with the following methods:

Particle (particulate N and C) samples for stable isotope (d15N, d13C) were collected and analyzed following methods in Montoya et al. 2002.

BCO-DMO Processing

* Sheet 1 of file "DATASET-MV1110_UW-Nutrients+Particles.xlsx" was imported into the BCO-DMO data system.
** Missing data values are displayed differently based on the file format you download. They are blank in csv files, "NaN" in MatLab files, etc.
* date value in the original excel file had one date with an issue. Row 64 of the original excel sheet had date displayed as "01/10/04" with the underlying excel value "1/10/1904 3:07:12 AM". This value was in the middle of the measurements for 9/13/2011 and the time 10:00 was the expected time for that row. That date value was changed to 9/13/2011 (confirmed this is the correct change with the submitter).

* Column names adjusted to conform to BCO-DMO naming conventions designed to support broad re-use by a variety of research tools and scripting languages. [Only numbers, letters, and underscores. Can not start with a number]

* ISO_DateTime_UTC added ISO 8601 format datetime with timezone
